New! Terminal Blocks With Push-In Jumpers

Altech Corporation introduces their CY Series of screw clamp terminal blocks featuring a universal and flexible push-in jumper system. Preconfigured jumpers enable users to rapidly customize connection configurations by just snapping the jumpers in place.

The preconfigured jumpers can connect two or more connection points/poles within a channel, from two to 16 points—depending on user selection. Two jumper channels, easy pin breakout and various pole configuration options make the CY Series customizable to meet most application needs. Pins are easily removed for alternate configurations and/or bridging jumpers.

Center marking area on the CY Series allows easy identification and organization of wiring. Dimensions depend on model and widths run from 5 to 10 mm for feed through models.

Snap-On DIN rail ground blocks feature snap-in-place feet, two-connection grounding terminals and come in an industry standard yellow/green color.

CYDL models in the CY Series are multi-function three-level terminal blocks with top level fuse links for 5 x 20 mm fuse types. Some versions include an LED indicator for blown fuse. These models can handle up to 30 A and can be used for AC or DC applications. They can be configured for disconnect or feed-through wiring.

All CY Series terminal blocks are designed for high density wiring. The features described enable users to save time and space compared to traditional wiring methods.

New UL98 Disconnect Switches

Altech Corporation introduces their UL98 Series of open and enclosed disconnect switches that are designed to operate industrial motors and other heavy duty industrial equipment power. They can be used as a main switch for larger panels and applications.

The UL98 Series is available in 60 and 100 A non-fused versions with 3- and 4-pole models offered in each version. Horsepower ratings range from 3 to 75 HP depending on source voltage and whether it is 1- or 3-phase power.

Every UL98 Series product is lockable in the OFF position for safety. Switching mechanism speed is independent of the operator. While silver contacts help ensure safety and durable operation of the product.

Switch enclosure housing materials for UL 98 Series include polycarbonate, sheet metal, and stainless steel. Housing dimensions are 150(w) x 120(d) mm and range from 300 to 400 (h) mm—without protrusions and depending on model. The enclosures are rated for prevention of incursion of dust and liquids to UL 4 or UL 4X standards—depending on version.

Accessories include add-on auxiliary switches that snap-on, add-on 4th/neutral pole, shafts, door interlock handles that are lockable with padlocks and touch protectors.

Handles and shafts for UL 98 Series disconnect switches are interchangeable with the Altech/Katko UL508 manual motor controller disconnects.

Altech Corp.® Introduces New IN65 Series of Standard Limit Switches Uniquely Integrating Economical Plastic Body and Durable Metal Components

The new IN65 series of standard limit switches available from Altech Corp.® uniquely integrate a plastic body and durable metal mounting clip and actuator lock to provide the economic advantages of plastic-bodied switches with the sturdiness of conventional metal-bodied versions. Their modular design and other special features offer application flexibility and ease of use for a wide range of position monitoring, product control, and/or safety applications in industrial automation processes.

Among key features, the metal mounting clip adds value and efficiency by allowing for tool-free assembly, rotation, and changing of the switch actuators. The modular switch design can accommodate different multiple slow-action or snap-action contacts and is available with a large assortment of actuator styles. This built-in modularity can help reduce storage requirements and broaden application potential.

The IN65 limit switches have a protection rating of IP67 and are rated for more than 30 million mechanical cycles, while ensuring switching reliability for as little as 1 mA at 5VDC. The switches conform to DIN EN 50047.

These switches, which are manufactured by Bernstein AG, have been engineered in standard dimensions and can be assembled with a variety of contacts and actuators to meet the specific requirements of an application. They provide reliable and durable solutions to successfully convert mechanical movement into electrical signals.

Altech® Introduces Industry ‘First’ UL 489 Ground Fault Equipment Protector Augmenting Complete Lineup to Help Prevent Costly Production Shutdowns

A complete line of UL Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) devices from Altech Corp.® – including an industry “first” – introduce ideal solutions to help prevent costly production shutdowns due to AC and DC pulsating ground faults, as well as overloads and (with some models) short circuits. The technology lineup – unmatched in the industry – offers three highly engineered series of devices delivering multiple capabilities and promoting reliable protection and operation of equipment wherever and whenever ground faults may occur. In all three series, ground fault sensitivity levels range from 10 mA – 500 mA.

The UL 489 Branch Circuit Breaker with Ground Fault Relay (GFL Series) represents an industry “first” by combining a Ground Fault Equipment Protector with a UL 489 Branch Circuit Protector, which eliminates a need for upstream circuit protection. This device is available in 1 pole+N, 2 pole, and 2 pole+N configurations at 120/240V AC and 240V AC. Rated current is 5A-40A and rated Short Circuit Interrupt Capacity is 10kA. Three trip curves (B, C, and D) can be specified.

The UL 1053 Ground Fault Sensing and Relaying device (GF Series) provides residual current protection for circuits with loads up to 63A. This model is designed with 2 and 4 poles at 277V AC and 480Y/277V AC, rated current of 25A, 40A, and 63A, and rated Short Circuit Withstand Capacity of 10kA. This device represents an ideal retrofit GFEP where standard overload and short circuit protection is already being provided (or will be provided) by other means.

The UL 1077 Ground Fault Relay with Overload Protection (GFR Series) serves as a combined Equipment Ground Fault Relay and Supplementary Protector (RCBO). The device can be supplied with 2 and 4 poles at 277V AC and 480Y/277V AC and with a rated current of 5A-40A. Rated Short Circuit Withstand Capacity is 10kA and three trip curves (B, C, and D) are offered.

These three series are the latest additions to Altech’s UL listed product range dedicated to meet the most demanding conditions and applications across industries. Altech® Ultra Capacitor DC UPS Power Backup Systems Optimized for Seamless Switchover During Outages, Interruptions, or Peak Demand

Ultra Capacitor DC UPS power backup systems from Altech Corp.® have been optimized for seamless switchover during power outages, interruptions, peak power demand, or power dips and sags. Their advanced capacitor technology contributes to environmentally safe operation, compared with battery-based systems prone to emit toxic chemicals from discharging batteries. The technology further enables excellent energy storage, fast microcontroller-based charging and discharging, and extended energy release (up to 55 minutes). These systems will deliver higher energy (up to 10,000 W) than electrolytic capacitor-based technologies and higher power than batteries. They ultimately will help to ensure reliable and consistent power for applications in any industry or setting where uninterrupted power supply is both critical and essential.

The Ultra Capacitor UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems are available in 12VDC and 24VDC output versions from 3 A to 40 A, depending on model. The CTEC and C-TEC P versions perform in conjunction with separate main power supplies (with the C-TECH P system able to produce an output spike for applications requiring a temporary surge of power). The AC-C-TEC systems augment these designs by incorporating a built-in power supply with AC input for maximized ease and convenience. Compatible with all models, a CEM (Capacitor Extension Module) ideally extends buffer times for applications exhibiting increased power demands.

The systems excel at controlled shutdown functions, resist shock and vibration, and feature compact and sturdy convection-cooled metal housings built to weather extreme conditions. They are engineered to operate over a wide temperature range from -40ºC to 65ºC (-40ºF to 149ºF), require virtually no maintenance over their 15+ years of expected service life, and can be DIN-rail mounted.

All systems meet relevant worldwide product standards and are covered by a three-year warranty. Altech additionally offers setup/monitoring software and comprehensive product support. Altech® CBI All-in-One UPS Power Solutions Combine Power Supply, Battery Charger, Battery Care Module, and Backup Module in Single Device

CBI all-in-one UPS power solutions from Altech Corp.® combine multiple functions in a single device for use as a power supply unit, battery charger, battery care module, or backup module. This “intelligent” device is compatible with a range of common battery types and is fully equipped with a real-time diagnostics system to continuously monitor battery status, charging levels, and potentially emerging battery faults. The CBI device ultimately will suit any battery-power application in any industry or setting where battery reliability is essential and the availability of backup power is critical.

The CBI UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) device is available in 12VDC, 24VDC, and 48VDC output versions for pairing with conventional battery types including open lead acid, sealed lead acid, lead gel, and Ni-Cd (as an option). The device features three charging levels (Recovery, Boost, or Trickle), allows for adjustment of charging current (from 20% to 100% of output current), and automatically and ideally distributes available power among load and battery. High efficiency up to 91% is achieved through switching technology.

The device’s battery-charging function is microprocessor-controlled and uses algorithms to detect a battery’s condition and then choose the appropriate charging mode. Real-time diagnostics enable easy battery diagnosis and fault identification (displayed by LED) to protect against potentially occurring faults, such as short circuit, inverted polarity, overload, or disconnection of the battery. If the CBI device ever becomes disconnected from the main power source, the battery will serve to supply the load until battery voltage reaches 1.5 V per cell, preventing deep battery discharge.

The CBI device performs over a wide temperature range from -40ºC to 70ºC (-40ºF to 158ºF) and is housed in a compact and rugged metal case offered in three sizes. The device can be DIN-rail mounted using a built-in a bracket.

This power solution builds upon and expands Altech’s extensive line of dedicated CB battery chargers, which feature the same advanced automatic diagnostics, charging level options, and protection against potential faults. All Altech power solutions meet relevant safety and EMC product standards.

New Altech Product Replaces Traditional Battery-Based Back-up System

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Altech Corp announced today a new product that will revolutionize the future of DC back-up power. Altech’s Ultra Capacitor Modules DC/UPS can be used in place of a battery system to ensure back up power. They are Din Rail mountable, virtually maintenance free and carry none of the hazards of a battery. Voltages include 12V and 24V DC from 1000 up to 10,000 Watts of energy in a standard unit. Extension modules are available to provide even more energy if needed.

Altech Key Selector Switches

Altech Corp.® offers high-quality key selector switches built with simplicity and reliability in every detail. Altech switches are one of the most robust 22mm heavy-duty metal operators available on the market.

Altech’s industry-standard switches are delivered in a variety of different combinations: two pole or three pole, momentary or maintained. They are keyed alike or can be keyed different, and to enhance security, several types of key removal options are available.

The switches are watertight and have been tested to meet NEMA Type 4X, 12 and IP65. Altech’s switches are also UL508 and CSA recognized. As another benefit these switches are a direct replacement for ZB2 type key switches.

Promoting Optimized Sealing And Reduced Component Stress: Altech Atex Strain Reliefs For Cable Entries Provide Increased Safety In Potentially Explosive Areas

Altech® ATEX polyamide strain reliefs for cable entries provide increased safety in explosion-endangered areas by eliminating any potential for arcs, sparks, or hot surfaces. These IP68-rated strain reliefs with neoprene seals promote optimized sealing and protection against contaminants and additionally reduce stress on components and terminal points in machine and device applications across industries.

Altech ATEX polyamide strain reliefs are available with NPT threads (3/8” to 1”) or metric threads (M12 to M63). The trapezoidal threads contribute high torque for a tight and permanent fit of the dome nut. Wide clamping ranges (from 2.5-6.5mm to 35-48mm, depending on type) ensure maximum strain relief in service.

Mounting is accomplished easily using a flat seal and metal locknut. Upon installation, the strain reliefs offer ideal gas- and water-tight solutions with the capability to perform over a broad temperature range (from -20ºC to 60ºC and -4ºF to 140ºF).

Custom products, including strain reliefs with extended threads, can be developed to satisfy particular application requirements.


Altech Introduces Polycarbonate Enclosures in Standard UL-Listed Versions

New UL-listed polycarbonate enclosures join the standard Altech® product line to protect control and measuring equipment against dust, water, and corrosion in the harshest operating environments. Their introduction provides users with the widest selection of UL-listed enclosure sizes available in the industry.

These small- to medium-size enclosures consist of two unique styles (TK Series and EK Series). Both are rated up to IP65 (NEMA 4X) and their compact designs contribute space-saving benefits.

The TK Series includes 13 different enclosures with several cover heights (overall sizes range from 50x52mm to 360x254mm). Standard features include gray or tinted transparent covers, a low base and multiple fixing points ideally suited for printed circuit boards, and sidewalls and endwalls supplied smooth or with knockouts.

The EK Series will typically house IEC components, such as DIN rail mount circuit breakers, switches, meters, and other control devices. Their unique covers integrate a shrouded cut-out and transparent hinged doors to allow for quick access and visibility of components. Overall sizes for these types range from 130x94mm to 361x254mm.

Among options, EMI/RFI shielding can be specified to protect sensitive electronic components and custom versions can be developed to meet particular application requirements.


EARNING HIGH MARKS FOR INDUSTRIAL CONTROL PANELS:

Altech Power Distribution Blocks
Approved to 100kA Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR)

Altech® power distribution blocks for industrial control panels have newly been approved to 100kA Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) in testing at 600V with Class J fuses.  This high rating adds to their value as ideal solutions to meet the latest SCCR requirements governing all industrial UL508A industrial control panels.

In accordance with NEC (National Electric Code) requirements, all industrial control panels must be marked with an SCCR consistent with UL508A safety standards and calculated based on ratings of individual panel components.  The high 100kA SCCR elevates Altech power distribution blocks to preferred industry status in realizing optimum overall panel-rating objectives.

Distribution blocks are available in one-phase or three-phase versions.  Current ratings range from 80A to 310A, depending on model.  The blocks incorporate 1 input (one-phase) or 3x1 inputs (three phase) and 5, 6, or 11 outputs (one-phase) and 3x6 outputs (three-phase).

All newly rated distribution blocks enable quick mounting (DIN rail or panel-mounted) and wiring; are IP20 finger safe; and can be integrated easily with other DIN rail-mountable modular devices.  Accessories increase the potential number of outputs using only one input.

Altech UL489 Miniature Molded Case Circuit Breakers
Offer Highest Rating in the Industry

New Altech® UL489 AC and DC miniature molded case circuit breakers offer the highest rating in the industry for their type and can deliver reliable performance in a wide range of applications, including low inrush motors, appliances, lighting, wiring protection, transformers, power supplies, and industrial controls, among others.  Industry-high ratings for the AC breaker versions are 32A at 480Y/277VAC and up to 63A at 240VAC.  A DC version offers ratings of 125V (1 pole) and 250V (2 pole) up to 63A.

Only Altech offers three UL ratings (489, 508, and 1077) providing users with a variety of cost-effective solutions to satisfy particular application requirements.  UL489 specified breakers enable, service entrance, feeder, or branch circuit protection and disconnect function; UL508 breakers can start, stop, regulate, control, or protect electric motors or industrial equipment; and UL1077 Supplementary Protectors protect again overcurrent for specific loads or applications.

These new UL 489 breakers are compact at 17.5mm wide, and incorporate 1 pole, 2 poles, or 3 poles (standard) and 4-pole models.  They are designed for easy DIN rail mounting and feature user-friendly positive trip indicator (green/red) and short-circuit interrupt (capacity 10kA).  Breakers are HVACR 40ºC rated.


New UL Listed Stainless Steel Enclosure
Stays Safe and Dry

April 2006. The Altech Stainless Steel range of enclosures are now cUL approved at a range of 25-125A/600V (60HP/600V). UL Tests have successfully proven that they meet NEMA Type 4X requirements (protection against splashing water, windblown dust, rain and hose-directed water and resistant to damage by the formation of ice). Their stainless steel construction is extremely resistant to corrosion, and the enclosure is also rated to IP66. These enclosures are ideal where chemicals are used for cleaning and maintenance such as food processing plants and breweries. Mining is another application area.


New Expanded PCB Terminal Block Series
Features Low Pricing, and Fast Deliveries

Altech Corporation has introduced a new Printed Circuit Board Terminal block series that features a large selection, quick deliveries, and pricing starting at $0.13 per pole in single quantities. The new series has both fixed and pluggable blocks, with greatly expanded pin spacing selection. In addition to standard blocks, this series features triple blocks, reverse horizontal blocks, 35 degree sloped blocks, panel feed-through blocks, flange mount pluggables and barrier strips. Deliveries are from stock to 4 weeks.

Connections are tubular screw, box clamp, or screw cage clamps. All housings are precision molded from self-extinguishing polyamide 6.8 and glass filled polyester, which provides excellent strength, and temperature resistance, which allows this product to meet UL94V-0 flammability rating.

Ready-made assemblies with customer specified pole configuration are provided, including hot stamping options.

The new block series meets national and international standards including CE, IEC, UL, and CSA.


CORROSION RESISTANT
TERMINAL BLOCK SERIES

Altech Corporation has introduced a new series of terminal blocks that can be provided with corrosion resistant metal parts. This new series of Altech’s DIN terminal blocks feature quality comparable to the very best in industry, at very competitive pricing.

Corrosion resistant blocks feature nickel-plated brass screws and clamps, which offer enhanced protection in highly corrosive environments. These terminal blocks are subjected to "corrosion cracking test" as per CSA Standard C22.2 No. 158. Most Altech DIN blocks feature screw cage clamps for maximum wiring efficiency and reliability. The blocks are manufactured to national and international standards including UL, CSA, IEC. Functions include feed-through, disconnect, high current, multi-level, ground, fuse and standard and custom integrated electronics.

In addition to our screw cage clamp terminal blocks, our new spring clamp series terminal blocks are offered with standard stainless steel clamps for extreme performance requirements. These blocks successfully withstand cyclic variations with respect to current and temperature and under highly corrosive environments.

(Flemington, NJ) – Altech Corporation is introducing a new line of UL Recognized DIN Rail Power Supplies with Power Factor Correction (PFC)

Altech DIN RAIL mountable power supplies have Universal AC input are suitable for industrial and automation applications. The PS series power supply line has a varying voltage input range of 85V to 264V on the single phase and 350V to 550V on the three phases. This line has a built-in short circuit, overload, over-voltage and over-temperature protection.  They are available from 35W to 960W with standard voltage outputs of 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V on the lower wattage models, and 24V and 48V on the higher wattage units. These high efficiency (up to 91%) power supplies are cooled by free air convection, have an LED indicator for power on and have a 100% full load burn-in test. They are UL/cUL and CE approved and have a 3-year warranty.


Metric Knockout Enclosures Meet Cenelec
EN50262 Standards

Altech Corporation has redesigned select enclosure families to include metric knockouts that meet EN50262 standard. The EN50262 standard was established by The Cenelec European Committee to standardize European thread sizes.

Metric knockouts enable the installation of cables, cord grips, conduit adapters and entry spouts, while maintaining a sealed enclosure with protected components. The knockouts are factory molded and are removed easily and quickly after scoring. The new metric knockouts are available in Abox, AK, AKL and Nautic enclosure families with sizes ranging from 2.56x2.56 inches up to 35.43x11.81 inches. Metric knockouts are also available upon request for the versatile TK Series.

The attractive, modern design and shape of the Abox features sidewall and backside knockouts for optimum installation space in tough, industrial environments. The AK Series offers an increased capacity for mounting components with its shrouded cut out cover and transparent reversible hinged doors.

AKL enclosures feature smooth exterior wall and knockout patterns on the inside, with identical tops and bottoms. Nautic Junction Boxes, supplied complete with terminal blocks, withstand harsh environmental conditions including extreme temperatures (up to 120 degrees C), ultra violet rays and sea air and salt-water weathering.

All metric knockout enclosures feature integral lid seals that guarantee IP 65 protection with the use of appropriate cord grips. Abox, AKand AKL enclosures are constructed of flame and impact resistant polystyrene, while Nautic enclosures are constructed of glass reinforced polycarbonate.
